Meeting - 1st April

Our April meeting starts at Checkley for afternoon ringing and tea before we move on to Draycott in the moors for our evening ring.

Checkley and Draycott are on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands. In the 1920's and 30's most Moorlands' bands rang with closed handstrokes, but this tradition has now died out. Cheadleton was the last band practicing this kind of ringing and completed a peal with a local band in some of the older minor methods in 1988.

Please see the Events pages for all the details including special methods.

Proposed Rule Change

The Association committee are proposing changes to the way committee operates. This will require changes to rules 13 and 14 of the Association. A notice detailling these changes has been sent to all towers with a request to display it on notice boards.

The changes will be proposed at the June business meeting. We need a quorum of 30 to make rule changes, so would be grateful if as many members as possible attend this business meeting.

New Bells at Ipstones

Ipstones St Leonard is installing a new ring of six bells. They have raised funds from several sources including a donation from JCB and a grant from our own bell restoration fund. The project leader is our bell adviser, David Jack, who will be training a new band.

The bells will be Hallowed by the Bishop of Stafford on Thursday 9th March at 7:30pm. They will then be hung in the tower over the next few weeks. All are welcome at the hallowing. The church postcode is ST10 2LF and there will be light Refreshments after the service.

Last Meeting

On Saturday 4th March we visited the canal side town of Gnosall. The meeting started just down the road on the six bells of Haughton before moving on to Gnosall for tea and the business meeting. This was followed by evening ringing on the eight bells at Gnosall.

As this was a quarterly meeting, there was also a 100 club draw with four cash prizes. See our 100 Club page for the results.

Our thanks to the ringers of Haughton and Gnosall for hosting this meeting and to all the helpers at Gnosall for a delicious tea.

If fully subscribed the first prize will be £50 at the prize draws and £100 at the super draw.

So if you would like a flutter in aid of a good cause, please contact our 100 Club organiser, Chris Adams.
